Located on Virginia's Middle Peninsula, Essex County is centrally situated just outside the Washington to Norfolk urban crescent.

The county's principal town, Tappahannock, dates back to a 17th century port settlement. The historic cities of Fredericksburg (40 miles north) and Williamsburg (56 miles SE) are within an hour's drive. ​

  • Special Called Meeting of the Essex County Board of Supervisors

    10/25/2016 - The Essex County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Called Meeting starting at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the School Board Meeting Room. The Purpose of the Special Called Meeting is to discuss applicants for employment for the position of County Administrator in closed session. 

  • ID Theft, “Sweethearts” Who Want Your Money and Other Scams

    10/25/2016 - On Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m., the Essex Co.-Tappahannock Triad will bring in a banking expert on identity theft and other scams. Christopher Gumm, EVB Vice President/Security & Bank Secrecy Act Officer, will talk about identity theft and other scams they’re seeing a lot of lately, such as “sweetheart scams.” 

  • New Board Established - Request for Applications to Serve

    10/18/2016 - The Essex County Board of Supervisors has re-establishing the Local Board of Building Code Appeals (LBBCA), and is requesting applications from county residents to apply to be appointed to serve on this local board. 

  • Essex County Land Use Taxation - Town Hall Meeting

    10/17/2016 - Thomas M. Blackwell, Essex County Commissioner of the Revenue, will host a “Town Hall” meeting to discuss land use taxation. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Essex School Board & County Office meeting room, 109 N. Cross Street, Tappahannock. 

  • Town Hall Meeting

    10/13/2016 - There will be a Town Hall meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Stanley Langford, on November 3, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the School Board Office Board Meeting Room. All are invited to attend.
